Celebrating Black History Month

February 1, 2023, marks the beginning of Black History Month (BHM), a time to honour the legacy and leadership of Black African, Caribbean Canadians, including our staff, partners and the communities we serve. Here at Children’s Aid Society of Toronto (CAST) we want to use this time to acknowledge, celebrate, and raise further awareness about Black communities, their cultures and histories. BHM is a time for celebrating and learning for all of us inside and outside of our Agency.

Throughout the month our staff will have the opportunity to recognize BHM by taking part in events and accessing resources and information. We will also use BHM as a learning and awareness building opportunity with the children, youth and families we work with. This includes providing them with books and resources centered around topics such as Black history, culture, arts and leadership.

Information about 2023 BHM events and resources can be found from a variety of sources, including:
•    Black History Month - City of Toronto
•    Black History Month Events - Toronto Public Library
•    Educational Resources - Ontario Black History Society
•    Black History Month - Art Gallery of Ontario
•    Black History Month - Canada.ca

This month and every month we encourage everyone to join us in learning more about Black African, Caribbean Canadian communities, cultures and histories.
