November marks Woman Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about gender-based violence and its impact on children, youth, women, and gender diverse individuals.

At CAST, we know that violence in the home can have lasting impacts on children and youth. Supporting families experiencing gender-based violence requires strong relationships across sectors and a coordinated approach that puts safety and well-being at the centre.

CAST is hosting the CAS/VAW Symposium on November 5, bringing the Child Welfare and Violence Against Women (VAW) sectors together to connect, share knowledge, and strengthen how we collaborate in supporting children and families.

This year’s symposium theme is “From Knowledge to Action: Mobilizing Frontline Practice & System Navigation”, which moves the work forward from broad discussions about collaboration toward practical implementation of the CAS/VAW Collaboration Agreement. Together, participants will bridge policy and frontline practice through concrete tools, protocols, and collaborative approaches that strengthen cross-sector responses.  Woman Abuse Prevention Month is an opportunity to move beyond awareness and conversation to meaningful action: strengthening partnerships, challenging harmful attitudes and behaviours, supporting survivors and children exposed to violence, and taking collective responsibility to prevent and address gender-based violence in our communities.

November 25 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

As we recognize these important dates, we encourage everyone to continue learning, raising awareness and supporting the collective work needed to help create safer communities for women, children, youth and families.
