Become a Volunteer Driver with our Children’s Transportation Centre
Help be the drive behind a child’s success.
We at the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto invite our community members across the Greater Toronto Area to become Volunteer Drivers to support children, youth and families who receive our services. As a volunteer member of our Children’s Transportation Centre (CTC), you’ll play an integral role in ensuring children and youth, from infants to teenagers, are transported safely to and from family visits, Foster Care homes and residences, appointments and more. The role is well-supported with mileage and cell phone compensation, training and ongoing support.
Transportation and Delivery
- Transport children and youth in a safe and timely fashion to designated appointments – we are a door to door service
- Ability to lift babies, small children, car seats and bags that small children may not be able to carry by themselves
- Ability and willingness to drive downtown and during peak hours
- Willingness to transport sibling groups
Safety
- Be a safe and responsible driver, and follow the rules of the road
- Follow all instructions on the Driver Manifest sheets
- Ensure child(ren) are transported in correct car seats and car seats are installed correctly
- Report any incidents, accidents or collisions to the CTC Office immediately
- Maintain confidentiality of our children/youth and families we serve (i.e. be mindful of information you hold especially on your drive manifest sheets)
Administrative
- Complete drive log/reimbursement forms and submit to the CTC Office as per reimbursement calendar schedule
- Review drive sheets and report any errors, i.e. incorrect address/phone number
- Attend periodic training and development meetings and periodic supervision
Qualifications
- Must maintain vehicle in good working condition and show ongoing proof of insurance
- Have at least 5 years of driving experience
- Owner of an automobile and possess a valid Class G driver’s license
- Ability to physically carry out the essential role functions, i.e. installation of car seats and carrying small infants and children
- Communicate with program staff and problem solve constructively
- Be flexible and reliable

- Toronto, Greater Toronto Area and outside of the Greater Toronto Area
Hours
- Day time, evening and weekends
- Peak weekday hours: 8AM -11AM and 3PM-8PM
- Peak weekend hours: 8AM -11AM and 5PM-8PM
When you begin as a Volunteer Driver, you’ll be provided with a detailed orientation focused on our processes, procedures, equipment training, and how to support the unique needs of children and youth. Following the initial training, you’ll continue to be assisted by our staff who will be available to support you, as required. In addition, compensation for mileage and cell phone use is provided.
