Screening Process

Once you have viewed the available volunteer opportunities, and decided what fits your schedule best, you will need to complete an application form, click here to view current volunteer opportunities.

After receiving your application, you will be contacted by one of the coordinators regarding the next step, which include the following:

Information Session - everyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer with CAS of Toronto is encouraged to attend. The information session is a way for you to connect with others who are interested in volunteering, provides an opportunity to learn more about the agency, our mandate, as well to find out more about the volunteer services and types of opportunities that are available. 

For those who are interested in applying for a Direct Service opportunity, you are required to complete the following:

Interview - should we proceed with your application, you will be invited for an interview as the second step of the screening process.

After a sucessful interview process, you must then successfully complete the following:

- Vulnerable sector police record check
- Child welfare system check
- Reference checks
- Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act - online training 

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer driver, or maybe required to drive clients in their volunteer role, you must complete/provide the following:

- Submit a 3 year driver's abstract
- Provide proof of a minimum $1 million liability insurance
- Upon approval to become a volunteer, complete a vehicle safety inspection for any cars being used to transport clients (cost covered by the agency), and complete any necessary repairs (at your expense)

Please note the screening and interviewing process is rigorous due to the nature of our work, as well as to ensure the safety and protection of the children, youth and families whom we serve. 

Once we have completed the full screening, your file will be reviewed once more and passed on to the Director of Volunteer Services for final approval.

We appreciate your patience through this process, as it may take  variable amount of time from the date of the interview to completion of all screening requirements. Candidates have one-year from the date of the interview to complete the direct screening process.
